Sylvie Malo-Clark was born and raised in the Canadian province of Quebec. In 1977
she set out in her orange VW Beetle to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada to learn
English at St. Thomas University. It was then that she met her husband Peter and
was introduced to the sport of fly fishing. Little did she know she was to embark on
a journey that changed her life. She quickly learned English and became very
passionate about fly fishing. During the fishing season she spends considerable time
angling for the Atlantic salmon mainly on the Miramichi, Cains, Restigouche and
Grand Cascapedia rivers. During the off season she ties flies and
shares her enthusiasm for the Atlantic salmon with many children in the province through the
Fish Friends program sponsored by the New Brunswick Salmon Council.
This program teaches children the life cycle of the wild Atlantic salmon and the importance of
conservation.
Sylvie enjoys participating in fly fishing shows as a guest fly tier, fly tying instructor
and speaker in Canada and the United States. She specializes in Atlantic Salmon flies
hairwing and her journey has also taken her into tying the classics.
Her flies and fishing adventures have been featured in magazines as well as books. Her birds eye art fly
boxes featuring a watercolor combined with Atlantic salmon flies are sought after by
discriminating collectors. Her main highlight so far is having been part of the exhibit “A Graceful Rise Women
in Fly Fishing Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” at the American Museum of Fly
Fishing for her flies, paintings and involvement in the sport of fly fishing. This
wonderful exhibit was very significant as it opened up many opportunities. It made
her realize how wonderful and vast the community of fly fishing is.
Sylvie Malo-Clark resides in Durham Bridge, New Brunswick, Canada on the banks of
the Nashwaak river with her husband Peter D. Clark. She has served on the board
of directors of the International Women Fly Fishers organization. She is part of the
Regal Vise Pro Staff, the Partridge of Redditch hooks team and others. Most of all
she enjoys sharing her love of fly fishing and making connection with anglers all
around the world.
